Evaluation(Part 8) - Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product?

My preliminary task was to create a scene where two people have to meet up using continuity throughout it all. For this task my partner and our friend acted out a scene where one of them is getting late to meet her friend. In this task we used a number of continuity shots such as eye line match, match on action and made sure we had the rule of thirds throughout it. I also used shot reverse shot.

Digital technology

The strengths I had when working with digital technology was that I was confident in using it as I had experience of using the technology in previous work.  I think my main strength would have been in making sure the shots are in the correct framing and there is rule of thirds. One of the weaknesses I had was that there were new versions of software coming out such as movie had updated and changed completely so I had to learn how to use that. I think the improvement I could have made is that I should have made sure that the editing technology was good and I knew how to use it properly.  During making my British social realism film I made sure that the shots and angles were right and I knew how to use the new digital technology.

Rule of thirds. During filming I made sure that the actor's eyes are a third way down the screen to follow this rule.

Creativity
I think the strengths I had in creativity could have been improved as the storyline was very basic and I could have made it something fun. The creativity in a video is quite important as it and makes a film unique or common. My strengths in this would be the framing/shot and angles of the film. I was in charge of filming and I found this quite good as I knew what I was doing and what shots I should use. In my British social realism film I made sure that it was more creative than this piece of work and that it kept to Film 4's ethos.

Production
During the production the challenges I faced were to make sure the camera was in the right position so I could get the right shots. If I made the film again I would make sure I shot all the angles properly and that the rule of thirds applies to all the shots. In the post production I found it a bit difficult to edit because the software I used was a new version of IMovie. I have had some experience with using the old IMovie but the layout and different techniques of editing had change which made my work a bit harder. If I edited again I would add a few better transitions and cut the shots a bit shorter so the whole video is no longer than a minute as the maximum seconds was 60.
My overall strengths would be digital technology as I knew what I was doing.  During the post-production and I did have help with using the new software. I also knew how to use the HD video camera and the tripod. The weakness I had in the planning was deciding what shots to have and where to have them in the video. I also had to include the certain
shots required (both the rules, match on action and shot-reverse-shot).
Post -production
My strength in post-production was the editing on the mac. I have experience in using the Mac but at that time I found of about the new version of IMovie which was my weakness as I wasn't that confident in using it but I did get help when using it and I was taught how to us it. I could have improved this piece of work by adding in music. I improved in this area by making sure I knew how to use iMovie and other software’s before using it for the actual opening sequence footage.

Research and planning
During research and planning, we made a storyboard for all the shots to go into and wrote down information such as the type of shot it is, location and the lighting. This helped us when it came to filming. For research, I looked into the different shots that we are meant to use in the continuity exercise and the editing techniques. The strengths of this was that the planning kept us organised in terms of which shots to film when and the research gave us an idea of what the shots should look like. The weakness would be that we had to add or take away a few shots that we said we would do in the planning as they didn’t go as well as we thought.

Evaluation(Part 7) - What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?

Evaluation(Part 6) - How did you attract/address your audience?

Evaluation(Part 5) - How does your media product represent particular social groups?

The film 'Framed' represents certain social groups through the archetypes and stereotypes using camera angles, Mise-en-scene, sound, expressionism, typography and editing.

The camera angles and shot represented the social group through the types of shots used. During this scene where the police officer asks Jay some questions as he is being arrested there are both low and high angles used. The angles we used created the different classes in the characters in the clip. The high angle shot of Jay represented him as being a working class person (not important) and low angle shot of the police officer represented him as being from high class. This shows the hierarchy in the type of people you would see in Britain as the police officer has the rights and normal people don’t. The archetypes would be shown through this too. The police officer is given the high status which would make him the boss. As Jay is a teenager in the opening sequence, a stereotype is shown. The stereotype is that teenagers are dangerous and they always get in trouble for having drugs or something else illegal.

There is a point of view shot of what Jay is seeing as he walks down the stairs towards the basement. This shot makes it seem that the audience are in Jay’s shoes and are walking down the stairs. This would make the audience feel like they are able to relate to him. This would create the idea to the audience that maybe they aren't that different from Jay.

When the police officer comes in, we can see that more of the screen time is given to him over jay which makes him more important. The continuity keeps the film smooth and brings in verisimilitude. The editing in this clip was vital as it creates the continuity. The continuity in the music and sound is important as it can change the atmosphere of the scene and how the audience portrays it

The sound of Jay's voice in the clip was over taken by some of the background noise when he was in the basement. This connotes that he didn't have that status and that he wasn't that important there.
The location tells the audience a lot about the character. The basement is a dark, dirty place. You can tell from Jay's facial expressions that he hasn't been there before. This backs up the point of teenagers being bad as Jay enters a room which he shouldn't be in.

The lighting we had was either natural or already at the location. This brought in more verisimilitude into the film. The location we filmed at was quite dark inside but outside it was quite light. This might connote at he's actions are wrong as he goes down the stairs as the lighting gets darker.
